Well I heard this crazy thing that aluminum foil will stop radio waves. My (cheap) stereos tends to pick up on to local radio stations and sometimes force me to listen to them until I turn it off of course lol. Like, ill be surfing the web and all of a sudden I can hear 50 Cent rapping and then I'm like wtf? Of course what I'm hearing is faint but still very annoying. Another funny story is one time, I was writing an essay and BAM, my stereos picked up 2 guys in the neighborhood talking on walkie-talkies LMAO! What would really be funny is if I heard pilots on an airlane talking about the weather and everything. So can anyone confirm that aluminum foil will block out these radio waves( such as the local radio stations)?

oh, and I don't know anything about aluminium foil blocking anything.

That reminds me of how my old speakers i had used to sometimes pick up inference from near-by semi-trucks and other radio sources. What was odd about it was it actually got louder if i turned the volume down.

On your question though..: I dunno if that'd work or not.

The mythbusters used a wire mesh to stop radio signals, so aluminium foil should work too. Try constructing a box with it and surrounding your radio with it.

*edit* Also there is this program in England called brainiac. One of their experiments showed you can boost cell phone reception by coating everything with aluminium foil. In which case the stuff should be able to reflect radio waves.

I guess it will, from what I've just read on the net aluminium is paramagnetic (1.61), that would block low amplitude frequencies (such as parasites).

some structure must be focalizing waves into your stereos general vicinity maybe you can try finding out what it is or....move the stereo.

it could be just hitting wire leading to speakers so move or cover...

Aluminium foil, supported on a piece of cardboard, should work. I remember that the satellite box in my living room had a piece of cardboard, wrapped in cooking foil, next to it for a while.

Besides, if it stops the governement hacking your brain it should stop 50 Cents getting in to gaming time.

I've had this freak accident two times over the years, where I go to call someone, and then my phone picks up into someone else's conversation. And when I try to talk, they can't hear me or anything, I just listened until they hung up.

And I don't know about the Foil thing, I'll have to look that up.

evidently, putting a complete thin layer of aluminum foil wont stop radio stations from hacking their songs into my cheap stereos. Hmm.....so id have to get a 3 inch thick layer of aluminum foil around my speakers? *cough*......that'd block the sound lol

Yeah it reflects them if I got it right. Some of the wave still passes through but it is very very small, but that means that if you put the volume very loud you maybe still able to hear it :P = no parties with crappy speaker!.
There are some studies on google about that on google but they are mostly not free
